Boeing CU Opens "Tellerless" Centers
Boeing Employees Credit Union, the third largest credit union in the United States, now has six in-store branches with no teller staff at all to supplement its two traditional branches and two branches in Boeing manufacturing plants.
The tellerless centers are located in supermarkets such as Top Foods, Quality Food Centers and Albertsons. There, members can use bank-by-phone, Internet banking services, and automated teller machines to bank. Consultants are available to help new members open accounts and to issue ATM cards on the spot, but do no teller transactions. The credit union has 290,000 members worldwide and $3 billion in assets.
