Public Law No: 108-189, which rewrites the Soldier's and Sailors' Civil Relief Act, just became law. Every financial institution needs to understand the changes and how it will impact them. From provisions on prevention of acceleration of principal to extension of the interest rate limitation to obligations jointly incurred by a servicemember and their spouse, the new law contains both clarifications and changes. SSCRA expert Mary Beth Guard will walk you through the new legislation and put you on track to stay within the confines of the protections afforded to those who serve in our military.
This Webinar will tell you about:
- How the interest rate cap provision has changed and what kind of written notice must be provided to a creditor;
- What your rights are in court proceedings involving both a servicemember and codefendants who are not in military service;
- The conditions under which SSCRA rights may be waived;
- What the nondiscrimination proviisions preclude you from doing;
- Limitations upon repossession of vehicles and other personal property;
- Special rights of a servicemember to seek anticipatory relief;
and all the other changes and clarifications to the SSCRA which impact financial institutions.
