Computer Crime Victims
A recent study suggests that more than a third of the companies who completed a computer crime survey had been victims of some form of intrusion or unauthorized use of their computer systems within the last 12 months.
The survey was sent to members of the Computer Security Institution, a San Francisco-based association of information security professionals. The responses indicated that 50% of the incidents were attacks from within the organization.
The survey did not reflect intrusions that were not reported. Most respondents stated that they would not report the intrusions to a law
enforcement agency because of the potentially negative publicity.
This study indicates that our computers may be under greater attack than we are aware-by both internal and external sources.
