Cyberspace Frauds
Have you been tempted to respond to ads for products and services on the Internet?
A recent article published in Home Office Computing advises caution. Theresa Rinehart, spokesperson for the Council of Better Business Bureaus, was asked, "Are there more suckers on the Web than anywhere else?"
Her reply: "No - the percentage of suckers is the same, but the pool of suckers they're reaching is a lot larger."
The Internet holds true promise for financial institutions and their customers in terms of marketing potential, but online scams abound. The Council receives seven to ten complaints daily about online frauds.
How do you know what to look for?
You can learn about the latest frauds by visiting the National Fraud Information Center (http://www.fraud.org) and getting a copy of Internet Scambusters (http://www.scambusters.com).
