Question & Answer

Question: We're thinking of fingerprinting our employees, and I remember reading something about it in the HOTLINE some time ago. Can you tell me where I can get information on fingerprinting employees?

Answer: What a memory! The last article we wrote about fingerprinting was in September, 1990! If you're interested in fingerprinting, call the American Bankers Association at (202) 663-5397 and ask for Diane Poole, Lena Robinson, or Willie Watson. Or, if you are closer, you can contact NACHA in NY or your Federal Reserve. Probably the most common contact is that of the ABA.

For your quick reference, BANKERS' HOTLINE learned that it now costs $25 per card to run the fingerprints. ($22 of that is the FBI fee, with $3 being handling and mailing costs to the ABA.) The turnaround time is presently about 60 days. ABA says normal turnaround is 21 days, but the FBI just moved their facilities, and have hired some 1100 new people. Logistics and inexperience seems to be causing a delay in response time. They expect that to improve shortly.
