That's Not A Flaw- That's A Feature!
We had expected to see the new $50 bill out by now-in fact, its release had even been announced. But the Treasury Department now says that 30 million copies of the new currency notes are being withheld from circulation because there are small breaks in the fine concentric lines behind the portrait of Ulysses S. Grant.
Larry Felix, spokesman for Treasury's Bureau of Engraving and Printing said they wanted the first bills to be as flawless and perfect as possible.
Treasury hasn't decided whether to hold on to the 30 million already printed and release them into circulation later, or to destroy them. Part of the hesitation to destroy them is the $1.44 million it has already cost to make the 30 million imperfect notes.
The new $50 bill has no flaw it in whatsoever, they claim.
