Making College Banking Convenient
Citibank teamed up with Columbia University, offering students cards and services while they are attending college. Accountholders can access Citibank's banking services through the Internet, telephone, or onsite. They will be provided with low-cost checking accounts for students ($3 per month, unless they direct deposit-then it's free), unlimited free Citibank ATM transactions, free Citibank internet and telephone banking together with access to onsite ATMs.
One of the reasons Citibank was chosen is because all undergraduate dorm rooms are Internet-wired and students are already accustomed to performing a wide variety of business transactions, from checking grades to ordering transcripts, over the World Wide Web. Citibank's Internet-based PC banking service, Direct Access, unlike some other banks online services, does not require a modem.
Citibank also plans a series of open seminars, on-campus, on money management.
The Citibank card will also serve as a University ID card. Those with accounts will have an additional mag stripe. Last year, the University issued 15,000 ID cards to students,
