Fighting School Violence

Banks around the country are helping in the fight against violence in schools. In the Chicago area, LaSalle Bank, Marquette Bank, Southwest Federal and Citibank joined other local firms and business organizations in a "Walk Against Violence."

More than 300 students from 25 local schools were sponsored. Proceeds went to "Take Ten," a program to educate local public and parochial school children on ways to react to situations without resorting to violence.

In the Bay Area of California, Bank of America and Wells Fargo Bank are among sponsors of a "Week of Caring," in which employees are given time off during business hours to volunteer on various projects. Kicking off the week is a special program taking place at the University of California to bring together students from 10 Bay Area high schools to discuss school violence and to develop violence prevention plans for the schools.
