An ATM/PC?
A Tennessee bank and leaders in the automated teller machine software and Internet markets combined forces to create an ATM that offers Internet access.
The $34-billion Union Planters Corporation, Memphis, installed the first model of an ATM that allows customers regular ATM services such as cash withdrawals, deposits, etc., but also allows the customer to treat the machine as a personal computer to obtain access to the bank's Web site. There, customers can get a detailed look at their account information and get additional transaction and marketing data. Eventually, they'll be able to pay bills.
Diebold, Inc. and FundsXpress, Inc. developed the technology.
