Bulk Order Supplies
UMB Financial Corp. has started a new Web service that allows smaller banks to offer their commercial customers discounts on office supplies, equipment and other products. It started the service in response to community banks' complaints that they couldn't keep expenses down the way big banks could because they weren't able to get bulk discounts. The Web site will allow them to band together to get discounts.
UMB currently offers such discounts to its own commercial customers, but said it plans to roll out a program to commercial borrowers of its correspondent banks soon. Participating banks would have their own Web sites that customers can visit to order products; but ordering would occur with other banks through UMB.
