Buy Savings Bond On The 'Net
There's good news from the Treasury Department for bank employees who dislike the task of selling savings bonds: the bonds are now available online.
People can buy U.S. Savings Bonds from www.savingsbonds.gov, a site of the Bureau of the Public Debt, by using their credit card number and an e-mail address. Bonds are delivered by mail in about a week. However, confirmation is sent via e-mail and gift certificates to give bonds to other people can be downloaded from the site.
The new service came about through the efforts of MasterCard International, Mellon Financial Corporation, IBM Corporation, and Treasury's Financial Management Service.
