Tellers Can ID By Photographs

PTC Banking Systems, Inc., which provides branch automation services for commercial banks, announced that banks that use its teller software now have the option of electronically identifying customers via signature or photograph pulled up on a computer screen.

The system, which was developed by Autosig Systems, Inc., allows those bank employees to access identifying information from any teller system or other display. The system also can be programmed to automatically engage identification tools for specific situations, such as during transactions larger than $250. This allows customers who forget their identification to still cash checks and make other transactions since their photos or signatures can be instantly accessed for comparison.

Another system developed by Mag-Tek Inc., a check and card reader manufacturer, allows customer records to be pulled up and displayed and customers to be identified by a swipe card and personal identification number at the teller line and other service locations. Once the card is swiped, the customer's name and account information is displayed on the computer's screen, eliminating traditional keying and identification systems.
