Automating the HR Function

One of Florida's oldest banks says it has reduced calls to the Human Resources Department by 80 percent by automating many human resources functions and allowing some of them to be conducted online.

First National Bank & Trust, Stuart, Florida is using a suite of software from Best Software, Inc. The software streamlines many of the human resources and payroll processes and allows employees to communicate directly with that department without having to call or visit an HR specialist.

For example, one of the functions of the software is to query the database and send out automatic alerts to people that can notify them of events such as upcoming performance reviews, benefits enrollment deadlines and other key information. Also, a self-service module allows employees to answer many of their questions by accessing their own records and a centralized information database that has answers to common questions. Managers also have access to information that can help them in preparing reports, setting up training schedules and other functions.
