Call $$$ For Cash?
The first transaction between a mobile phone and a traditional automated teller machine took place during a pilot project in Denmark recently.
The pilot is a joint effort between NCR Corporation and two consulting/high technology companies in Europe. Last year, NCR unveiled a futuristic, egg-shaped ATM designed for use with a mobile phone or digital assistant. The current pilot, however, is the first time cash was drawn from a traditional ATM instead of a concept model.
The pilot program allows people to key in information such as transaction type, amount, and account details on their phones before they approach the machine. At the ATM, users enter security personal identification numbers into the mobile phone, which then transmits all the information via infrared technology to the ATMs.
