Citizens Bank, Pittsburgh, recently announced that an employee from Western Pennsylvania has been selected as one of this year's recipients of sabbatical leave, which will allow her to take three months off of her regular job at the bank to volunteer at a non-profit organization. The employee, Michelle Cheeks, will work a regular work week at Hosanna House, an organization that provides health and human resources services for the disadvantaged, including job training, education, family support and addiction recovery. Citizens Bank will pay her regular wages while she volunteers.
Citizens has granted 27 such sabbaticals since the program was begun in 1994. Employees who apply for the sabbaticals have to have worked at the bank three years and have to go through an application and interview process. They are guaranteed the same salary and level of responsibility once the sabbaticals are completed.
