French Bank Employees Have Stress Reliever
France's second largest bankers' union is offering that country's bank employees a way to relieve the stress of working for a bank: it has contracted with a private company to create a hotline those employees can call.
SNB CFE-CGC, the union, says employees in that country face a multitude of stresses brought about by changes in the banking industry, such as recent mergers, the shortening of the work week (which has in turn caused less jobs) and economic uncertainty. A 2001 report by the U.N. International Labor Organization said the French financial services sector lost 26,000 jobs from 1986 to 1997.
The hotline provides stressed employees a place to call to talk about their concerns. The hotline is manned by 20 "tele-psychologists" and the contract with the company (Psya), also calls for three free follow-up visits to Psya office psychologists.
