At a time when banks are experiencing increases in robberies, a new robbery reduction program for Bank of America is having the opposite effect. A pilot program run in Los Angeles saw a 69 percent decline in robberies.
The bank is customizing the program to specific locations with different branches getting different types of security support. Among the solutions being employed are deployment of high quality, professionally trained security officers, installation of bullet resistant bandit barriers, mantraps with weapons detection capabilities, high-tech digital surveillance systems with expedited transfer of suspects' photos to police, training for associates on how to react, and devices containing smoke and tear gas emitters and electronic transmitters.
