New ATM Law in New York
The Governor of New York George Pataki recently signed into effect a new automated teller machine law that requires banks to hold security tapes longer and to record every person entering a facility or all activity occurring within a certain distance of an outside machine.
Banks in that state now have to hold tapes 45 days instead of 30. "In some cases in may take up to a month or more for banking customers to realize they've been victimized," Governor Pataki pointed out during announcement of the law.
Other states have the same proposal under consideration.
