As an alternative to buying expensive new automated teller machines to meet new Triple DES encryption requirements, community banks have the option of refurbished machines made compliant as they are upgraded. ACG ATM-Remarketers now offers machines that are upgraded as they are refurbished.
Triple DES is a stronger encryption method than what has been used up to this point. Both VISA and MasterCard are requiring use of Triple DES, which provides better protection of electronic data transmissions, by April 1, 2005. To be compliant, ATMs need new encryption personal identification number pads and updated software. Working through ATM manufacturers, ACG installs the needed hardware and software as the machines are rebuilt.
