Routing Number Info
Question: I read your article, Routing Number - How to Calculate and would like to know if you can direct me to a web site that would show me a list of the different components of the number. i.e. the federal reserve districts, the codes for the city and state.
Answer: One place to look is on the Thompson Publishing web site at http://www.tfp.com/text/ aba_policy.pdf, which is a very official explanation covering 22 pages. If you're looking for the actual numbers, you'd need a Rand McNally book (Expensive!) or to track a single number, call the library of your local Federal Reserve Bank. The 12 Fed districts and their phone numbers are listed on their web page at http://www.federalreserve.gov/otherfrb.htm. A second place to look will be in an upcoming training page where I will go through the numbering system again.
