Dots that Protect Documents
A Spokane, Washington company says it has created an inexpensive way to guard against counterfeit checks and other documents. Verification Security's system uses tiny magnetic dots that are 3 square millimeters, which is about a third of the size of the smallest fingernail.
The dots are printed on the checks or documents. The users of those checks or documents then use a magnetic reader to swipe the checks or documents. If they don't contain the dots, they are flagged for rejection. Cost of the scanner is about $1,200, while cost of applying the dots is about $140 per thousand documents.
