Increasing Cell Phone Value at ATMs
State Bank of Mauritius, Limited, Mauritius, Nebraska recently became the first bank in that city to provide a service whereby cell phone users can use the bank's automated teller machines to "top-up" their mobile phone service. Customers of several local mobile phone companies can simply walk up to any one of the bank's 94 ATMs and using the machine, add additional money onto their pre-paid phone services. The bank says mobile phones are extremely popular in Mauritius and that one third of the city's residents use pre-paid mobile phone service. It is hoping to expand the capabilities to its many point-of- sale terminals and eventually, by using the Internet and the mobile phone itself.
