Protection Against Identity Theft
Consumers who are concerned about identity theft are being offered insurance when opening a checking account at some financial institutions. Progeny Marketing, Nashville, Tennessee, offers insurance ranging in price from $2 to $10 per month, depending on coverage. The policy will cover up to $10,000 in expenses resulting from identity theft.
And United Guaranty Corporation, Greensboro, North Carolina has a product called Identity Guard. For about $10 a month a client's credit reports are monitored. If the credit file shows significant changes, the customer is alerted immediately.
