More Check 21 Products Rolling Out

In our last issue we reported on several companies who are offering systems to help prepare for Check 21. Preparations are continuing for the October 28 deadline for banks to be able to accept the new Image Replacement Documents (IRDs) created by Check 21. Many vendors to the banking industry are upgrading existing products and creating new ones. While Bankers' Hotline does not endorse any product, it's advantageous to our readers to know what's available. Here are some additional sources:

Unisys Corporation has introduced a new check processing hardware system with related software and services that validates check image quality and accelerates check processing operations. Features include check data recognition techniques that reduce rejects, facilitate recognition of exceptions, and flag potential Check 21 image quality problems; technology that recognizes digital signatures; design changes that reduce jams; and cameras that reduce the size of the system and lower costs.

A2iA Corporation has expanded its check reading product to allow developers to more easily build Check 21-ready applications. The added features will allow banks and financial institutions to verify check usability in real time. The A2iA check reader will detect fields not filled in, including courtesy and legal amounts, signature, payee name and date. It also detects images made unusable because of scanner issues or incorrect printing. The reader also can identify whether a check is machine printed or handwritten and can highlight checks not signed or missing important information.
