One More Way
Reports from California are about a new way to steal cash from an ATM. The thief jams the card slot apparently with two-sided tape and when an unsuspecting customer puts their ATM card in, it becomes stuck inside the slot.
The thief usually is standing nearby, pretending to be talking on a cell phone. When he sees his victim trying to get the card out, he tells them he had the same problem before and the only way to get the card back is to report it to the bank. But to be sure the card can't be used, he tells the customer to enter his PIN and then press cancel.
He is, by that time, close enough to observe and learn what the PIN is. After the customer leaves, the thief returns, fishes out the card with tweezers, and withdraws cash.
