ATMs at Sea
The Naval Supply Systems Command has partnered with Treasury's Financial Management Service to roll out a highly successful pilot program that allows military personnel a way to bank aboard ship and make many purchases without cash. The smart card-based, electronic purse program gives those personnel a debit card in lieu of a paper paycheck that can also conduct cashless banking transactions via special machines and make purchases from vending machines onboard ship. Off ship, personnel can use the cards to make purchases and get cash from automated teller machines.
