Lead-free Fingerprint Technology
by Barbara Hurst, BOL GuruGuru Bios
A leading provider of fingerprint sensors recently announced that its fingerprint technology is completely lead-free, alleviating any concerns that the technology might harm the environment. Authentic, Inc., which was one of the first companies to make fingerprint biometric viable for mass markets, explained that advances in semiconductor packaging technology have allowed it to replace lead-based solder plating with nickel-palladium-gold while also moving to a lead-free solder ball for its laminate array packages. What that means in simpler language is that its products are lead-free, but they still comply with global standards for fingerprint biometric sensors.
