Protecting Phones by Touch
A Korean wireless network operator recently launched a biometric cell phone. LG Telecom's new phone features a fingerprint sensor that identifies and enables authorized users to access the phone's full capabilities, including conducting wireless banking services as well as MP-3 capabilities, a digital camera, a global positioning system and data services.
The fingerprint technology used allows readings below the surface of the skin to the live layer, which means readings are not affected by common skin surface conditions such as dry, calloused or dirty hands, according to its creator AuthenTec.
