Cry and Dye
Once a dye-pack chip in a strapped bundle of bills goes through the electronic field around the door of the bank, it can be programmed to go off in any number of seconds desired. In some cases there is enough time for a robber to jump in a car before it goes off - filling the car with tear gas and red dye.
Last month in New York City, it gave the robber, who was a pretty fast sprinter, time enough to get into a subway station and actually through the toll booth before it went off, creating a pretty terrible start to the day for the crowd of commuters standing on the subway platform, some of whom required medical attention for burning eyes affected by the tear gas.
Unfortunately, in the confusion, the robber managed to get away. But police say they expect to catch him "red handed."
