Authenticating Seal for Substitute Checks
Fiserv, Inc. is offering a seal for substitute checks that survives the imaging process and can be read later to authenticate those substitutes and to expedite Check 21 research.
The seal is being offered as a security feature that contains encoded information specific to the substitute check, including the original MICR information and information on the truncating and reconverting banks. A study by the Financial Services Technology Consortium found that the seal was read electronically 99.8 percent of the time with standard industry black and white imaging.
The company is offering the seal both for substitute checks it creates in its own processing facility and to financial institutions that choose to create their own substitute checks.
