Keeping Track of ATMs
Imagine a group of ATM thieves' surprise when the police show up at the same time as the criminals to whatever location they've chosen to crack open the machine. Such could be the case with a system Wincor Nixdorf recently unveiled and is offering on all its automated teller machines. The ATMs have internal modems that automatically send a text message via mobile communications to a tracking center when the machine is removed. Bank personnel in the tracking center can then track the machine's whereabouts using global positioning software and alert law enforcement about where the machine is moving.
