Fighting Predatory Lending
A coalition of public and private organizations in Philadelphia has launched a campaign to fight predatory lending in that area of the country. The Suburban Philadelphia Don't Borrow Trouble Campaign is a multi-media effort to educate and offer assistance to the people most likely to run into trouble - the elderly, minorities and low- to moderate-income individuals. Its backbone is a toll-free telephone number that people can call as a resource for advice before getting into trouble or for those already having foreclosure trouble. The campaign also includes brochures, a web site, radio public service announcements and face-to-face education and counseling.
The campaign is sponsored by the Counties of Bucks, Chester, Delaware and Montgomery; Community Impact Legal Services; and Freddie Mac.
