Customer Copy of CTR
Question: Is there anything in the law or regulations that specify that a customer may not receive a copy of any CTR that contains his/her name?
Answer: No, there is nothing in either that would prohibit you from giving a copy of a Currency Transaction Report to the customer. However, making and supplying a copy to the subject is not encouraged. Indeed, you would be advised by most security experts and Bank Secrecy Act officers to discourage such a practice. There is no good reason for a customer to even ask for it. On the other hand, a Suspicious Transaction Report (SAR) is a whole different story. Not only are you forbidden to supply a copy to the subject of the SAR, you are also strictly prohibited from revealing even the fact of the filing.
