Last Robbery

The Texas bandit had already served time in prison for bank robbery and is 'credited' with what the police term, "…quite a number of bank robberies" in the Dallas area. The MO (method of operation) was almost always the same - the gun was in the belt band of the trousers. It was shown, quickly, to the teller, and then the demand for money was given verbally.

Not only banks were hit, but also convenience stores, gas stations, and other retail locations. The last bank robbery pulled by this ex-con was in Tyler, Texas. The Guaranty Bank called 911 and said it had just been robbed, but that there was a dye pack in the money bag. A couple in the parking lot close by saw the bag being carried by the robber, and noted the cloud of red smoke coming out of it. They dialed 911 themselves, reporting the person carrying the bag drove away in a Winnebago RV.

Police quickly located the RV, surrounded it and warned the alleged bank robber to come out. The door opened and the driver finally appeared, carrying a gun and pointing it at the officers. They opened fire. The robber was killed.

The unusual part of this incident? The identity of the bank robber - Peggy Jo Tallas, a 60 year old woman.
