Customers of a credit union in Canada can now elect to protect their accounts by signing up for a program that allows the financial institutions to pull up an image of the customer from customer services computers to verify identity.
North Shore Credit Union, Vancouver, British Columbia became the first Canadian customer to use the new technology, which was developed by Pivotal Corporation. The system eliminates the need for members to show a driver's license. Instead, customers' photographs are stored on the credit unions CRM system so that front-line staff can pull them up at the time of a transaction.
According to the credit union, almost 98 percent of the people it asked to participate in the pilot phase of the program agreed to be photographed.
