Charter One Bank is celebrating the beginning of winter with a program designed to help Michigan area homeless shelters with the expected price increases for heating. The bank is donating $75,000 to a coalition of homeless shelters. It is also encouraging its customers to participate by collecting donations through the bank's 124 Michigan branches through January 31. Fuel prices are predicted to climb by about 50 percent this winter.
