Sending Its Own Employees to Help
Taking a unique, but direct approach, Citigroup partnered with the American Red Cross to help areas devastated by last fall's hurricanes by paying full expenses for a relief team of its own employees. The employees were selected nationally from more than 1,100 volunteers who applied to participate in the program. The company paid the full salaries and picked up all expenses for 31 of those employees, who were trained by the American Red Cross, then sent south for two weeks to provide hands-on relief and recovery assistance. The effort is on top of the $11.2 million the company and its employees have donated to hurricane relief and rebuilding.
