Budget Season
It costs how much? Why do we need it? How could we do more with less? It's budget time and the boss is asking for justification of your annual renewal charge for Internet access. "Why," she asks, "do we spend $25 per month for something that my kids tell me is FUN (mutually exclusive from compliance)?"
"Yes, boss," you reply, "there are lots of fun sites on the 'net. Take the Federal Register, for example. We've been paying $500 a year for it (or couldn't afford to get it), but its free on the 'net and I can get it the same day it's published. We get lots of great information as soon as it's released by our regulator and I've found loan calculators, deposit rate shopping services, stock market quotes, the EDGAR database, mapping software, our competitors, the federal courts, free lawyers, your alma mater, our state and national trade associations, the local weather and the Dilbert archive.
"We're getting unlimited connection time and the cost can be reduced by paying a year at a time. Can I e-mail my renewal notice to our access provider now?"
