SARs v. Law Enforcement
No 2004 compliance conference would be complete without some mention of law enforcement's careless release of SAR information. ABA's National Regulatory Conference was no exception. Les Joseph, Principal Deputy Chief, USDOJ, apologized to the industry audience and described efforts to keep references from SARs out of procedures and legal filings. Law enforcement has been advised to protect this information and to maintain the confidentiality that should attach to it.
