Credit Bureau Address
Question: Why does the FCRA require us to give the applicant a street address for the credit bureau? Not only does this seem silly when the credit bureau is several states away, but it is a problem when the bureaus have told us that they want all mail directed to a post office box.
Answer: It does seem pointless to give the street address of a distant credit bureau, particularly when that company wants its mail sent to a box. Unfortunately, the rule was written long ago - when the credit bureau was an organization in town. The idea was that by providing the street address, the consumer could go to the credit bureau and look at their report and discuss any concerns with the bureau. Those days are gone, but the rule hasn't changed to reflect today's realities.
