The Interagency (and FTC) proposed rule would implement section 312 of FACTA, which deals with l) the accuracy and integrity of information furnished to credit reporting agencies; and 2) circumstances under which a furnisher must reinvestigate disputes about the accuracy of information contained in a credit report based upon a direct request from a consumer. Section 312 of FACT requires entities who furnish information to consumer reporting agencies to establish reasonable policies and procedures for ensuring accuracy and integrity of the information and for handling direct disputes from consumers.
