Robbery Training Pays Off

Provident Bank was the victim of a robbery recently. Their branch was inside a Super Fresh (grocery store) in Nottingham, MD. The employees were so fast at calling in the robbery with a description of the robber and his vehicle, that police made an arrest within five minutes.

Ask yourself, at the five minute mark, would your tellers still be assembling information and dealing with the stress of what happened, or would they have made the call as this bank did. I believe that the bank's effective training and practiced procedure contributed to the success the police had in this apprehension.

The next time you train on robbery issues, examine your process. Do you lecture, or do you interact and actually have staff run through the steps to see that what needs to be done is done quickly and in a specific order. Book smart and execution of a process are two different things. Provident demonstrated an excellent process with an excellent result.
