![]() Monday, September 25, 2006 ( 8:16 AM ) Andy Have you been reading the threads and seen the one about the fake quarters? There are several points to consider in this thread. Likely these are not counterfeit quarters. Who would take the time and expense to counterfeit a quarter. Randy Carey seems to have it right with his link to what we'll call "adult quarters." These are novelty items with an adult flavor as they have bare breasted women on the backs of most. There are many versions available. Randy has a link in the threads if you want to see what these look like. These appear to be real quarters that are modified. The front is modified as well as the back. The fronts have text at the bottom such as "Head Quarters," "Sexy Quarters" or "Alien Quarters" instead of a year or "Quarter Dollar." One problem is if you have a teller who accepts one of these by mistake. Even though they claim to be made from real quarters I don't know that they're considered legal tender any longer. But a bigger problem is if a teller doesn't inspect their quarters and gives another customer one of these without looking. Imagine the elderly grandmother who wants the newest state quarter for her grandson. As she walks through the lobby examining the coin, what will she say, or yell? While comical, this could be a potentially embarrassing situation. It behooves bankers to remind staff to look for more than bad bills incoming from consumer and commercial customers. Avoid this situation. # |
