The Jan. 1, 2007 FedFlash has the details. # Monday, January 08, 2007 ( 10:50 AM ) Andy Oh what a tangled web we weave... Todd Shriber, 28, was a press officer for US Republican Rep. Denny Rehberg. Mr. Shriber was perhaps contemplating his own run for office and thought his mediocre grades from Texas Christian University would look better if they had been higher. He contacted two people on attrition.org and asked if they could hack into the TCU system and "enhance" his grades after the fact. The two security experts, aka hackers-for-hire, he contacted, "Lyger" and "Jericho" (AKA "Security Curmudgeon") warned him that this was a criminal act. Still the same this is what Shriber wanted to do. But instead of hacking into the TCU system they later responded that the hack didn't go well and that Shriber should "duck and run if you can." What the hackers didn't do was hack into the TCU computer. What they did do was publish the 22 email messages exposing Shriber who later said, "I did something that's greatly out of character for me and it's a mistake that I regret." Shriber was fired from his job. # |
