Have you heard ...

You can actually take a Career Test in BankersOnline.com's Career Connect! Are you thinking of changing jobs, getting out of the cube situation and into a real office. Here you can take "The Career Key Test" that will enable you to
  • Assess Yourself
  • Get Advice
  • Move Ahead
  • Take a look and learn something about yourself that you didn't even suspect. After you finish the test, you will be able to set your career sights in the right direction!

Take a moment to really polish and particularize your resume. Make it specific to the position for which you want to interview. Do not glamorize and do not lie. Many companies today conduct more than one interview with a candidate, if they are really interested in that person. Be prepared for a panel, yes a panel of interviewers. Gone are the days when you might meet with the person for whom you will be working or perhaps the HR Manager. It is not uncommon to meet with the entire department and have individuals fire questions at you, one after the other. However, if you are prepared, qualified and the right person for the position, this should only give you confidence.

    • Do your homework: Google the institution. Learn names of the managers and others, if you can, who work there. Get some facts and figures.
    • Be enthusiastic: Nothing kills an interview faster than a limp handshake. Be firm, put your hand all the way into the other person's hand. Meet their eyes and above all smile!
    • Ask for the position: Yes, come right out and ask for the position, ask about responsibilities, but do not ask about benefits - not in the first interview.
    • Thank the interviewer: Thank him/her at the end of the interview - seal this with a firm, friendly handshake, then go home and write a thank you letter and get it in the mail, so that it is received the next morning.
Now, if you really want that position, wait a reasonable time, say a week, then call and ask to speak to the person with whom you interviewed. Be polite, but enthusiastic when you ask if a decision has been made regarding the position for which you interviewed. If the answer is "no", reiterate your interest and a specific qualification you have that could influence their decision making. Thank the person once again and end the call. It is good not to seem insistent or annoying, but sometimes this little nudge and reminder is all it takes
