Ready to study the law itself? This link goes to the official version of the Check Clearing for the 21st Century Act, as presented to the President. As the short title indicates, the Act may be cited as the "Check Clearing for the 21st Century Act" or the "Check 21 Act". You may also hear it referred to as the "Check Truncation Act".
Did you know that Congress tried to lay the groundwork for check truncation way back in 1987 with the Expedited Funds Availability Act? In that Act, Congress directed the Federal Reserve Board to consider establishing regulations to require depository institutions to provide for check truncation.
