Series-2004 $20 Bills to be Issued in October
by Andy Zavoina, BOL Guru

From October 9, 2003 through the end of that month, Federal Reserve Banks will complete orders for this denomination with the new $20s originally described in the "All About the New $20" article. When the inventory of newly designed bills is depleted, the old style will be used in shipment orders again.

According to the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas Notice 03-49, banks are encouraged to order the new bills in order to meet projected demand but do not need to exchange old bills for the new design.

The new design:
  • will be harder to counterfeit
  • will still have a watermark and security thread
  • features color shifting ink
