REG CC Samples
by Bonnie Mizrahi
One of the most effective tools for Reg CC training is the use of sample items. With samples, you move from a theoretical discussion of how the regulation would apply to an actual how-to that requires your employees to think through the type of item being presented, how it would be classified under Regulation CC, the amount of the deposit, make a determination of whether it is local or nonlocal, take into consideration the amount, the type of account into which it's being deposited, the customer's history, and all the rest.
If you have an in-house graphics person, consider customizing Bonnie's samples to meet your institution's needs, changing the routing numbers, drawee bank locations, etc. Even if you don't have a graphics person, a little white-out and a steady hand can accomplish the task!

I am Vice President / Compliance Officer for a $1 Billion
Bank. I have worked in Compliance full time since 1992. Prior to that, I
have been involved in Compliance at one level or another since 1979, usually
focusing on Reg Z, HMDA and Reg B for loan documentation.
I got started in banking after a temporary summer job turned into an offer
for full time work. I got involved in the compliance side of lending
because, quite frankly, no one else wanted that job!
I know that many people find Reg CC confusing and frustrating, but to me
it's a lot simpler than many of the byzantine rules of HMDA, RESPA, and the
new Privacy laws, and it's not nearly as intimatading as some aspects of
the Bank Secrecy Act.
