Legalities of Copying a Driver's License David Dickinson, BOL Guru
Guru Bios
Question: I am new in the banking business and I was told that the law forbids the bank to make copies of the customers driver's license and put it in their folder. Is it true?
Answer: It is not against any federal law to photocopy a driver's license (DL). However, footnote #40 of the 6/05 BSA/AML Examination Manual states banks should not photocopy a DL AND retain it in a credit file.
