Passport Required ID For W-8?
Answer by Ken Golliher, BOL Guru
BIO AND CONTACT INFO

Question: Is a passport the only acceptable ID when a person fills out a W-8?

Answer: If the customer is executing a W-8BEN you might require a foreign passport as the only acceptable source of primary identification, but it is not necessarily the only type of identification he or she would have.

A nonresident alien may also have a state drivers license, a state ID card, or a cedular card, all of which are considered primary identification and are acceptable on a CTR.
